If the Dart and Recon had the same size stanchions you couldn't use the same damper in both forks because the internal diameter of a steel stanchion is different to the internal diameter of a aluminum stanchion.ĭon't know what damper you would need but it would have to be the same length, be for a fork with the same amount of travel, be for a fork with the same diameter stanchions and be for a fork that has stanchions made from the same material. Darts have steel stanchions and your Recon has aluminum stanchions. Recons have 32mm stanchions, Darts have 28mm stanchions. How has it blown? Maybe it just needs a new o-ring or seal in it, there is service kits for dampers. Looking at other similar items on sale I found these two: RockShox Tora SL Standard Turnkey Compression Damper: and RockShox Tora 302 TurnKey Compression Damper: Would any of these two fit my Recon 335? I attached pictures below but also willing to take measurements if instructed. So I went and bought this RockShox Dart 2/3 Compression Damper Standard Adjust: - thinking it would fit into the the stanchion of my RockShox Recon 335 (OEM) It's smaller in diameter than the original one and it sunk inside the stanchion. I'm not into this level of detailed service parts and my LBS is clueless. I blew up the damper after a hard landing from a high jump. This fork is 07-08 model and it came OEM on 08 Trek Fuel EX 6.5. Specific bikes: 2008 Trek Fuel EX7 (26') 2008 Gary Fisher Hifi (26'). Given it's around $100 per fork to service them at a shop I wouldn't be pained paying an extra $100 per bike to just get better forks. Neither bike is worth over $600 so I don't want to go crazy, but I don't want to step down the quality either, heh. Anyone got any ideas on what I'd need and/or where to get the service kits I'm seeking out? As an alternative, what are some decent more modern forks I could swap in their place that won't blow the budget. All the recon stuff is for newer silver/gold, or says '2010 and later models'. The problem is I'm not really able to find service kits for these forks anywhere. I was able to find pretty detailed instructions from a 2010 service manual, which seems to be accurate for what I have for forks. I need to rebuild two sets of forks, Rockshox Recon 335 and 351.

Cycling Plus is the manual for the modern road cyclist. There are so many mid-priced RockShox forks around that it’s hard to pick the best, but we reckon this hot-rod Recon is a value. 41 solo air spring service (boXXer wc - lyrik - recon - totem).

I’m debating whether to try and get them fixed again somewhere else? Or maybe look at buying some new forks? There was no resistance again (using the entire travel on the slightest bump). I then used my bike on a trail a couple of months later and about 15mins into the ride the forks stopped working again. The forks felt fine, I was told the old seals were still intact and they obviously didn’t charge me for new seals. Annoyingly though I was told the mechanic tried to order new seals for the forks but there was a 3-4 week wait. So I took the forks to go get serviced/repaired at my LBS and when I collected the bike the forks felt as good as new. When I got back home the forks then decided to completely seize up (couldn’t move the suspension at all). The slightest drop off or rock would use the entire travel (with no resistance to absorb the shock), so I stopped riding to make sure I didn’t damage them. Whilst I was riding on a trail they suddenly stopped absorbing shocks (almost as if they had no air pressure in them). My Recon 335 Solo Air forks stopped working at the end of the summer last year.
